Here you will read about breast reduction surgery, namely: type of anesthesia, place of performing, surgical techniques, nipple and sutures position.

The Surgery
The Surgery

Prior to surgery, your doctor measures and puts marks on your breasts. Breast reduction surgery regularly is performed under general anesthesia when you gasp as a gas or obtain through an intravenous (IV) line. It influences your whole body, making a transitory state of unconsciousness.

Breast reduction surgery may be done in a hospital, an outpatient surgery center or an office-based surgical suite. If you are acknowledged to the hospital, your stay there will be a short-term. Breast reduction surgery generally lasts from two to three hours. After the surgery, you wake up in a recovery room, where you're supervised for any complications.

breast-reduction_surgeryBreast reduction techniques differ, but the most common procedure includes an anchor-shaped incision that circles the areola, expands down, and follows the natural curve of the fold beneath the breast. The surgeon eliminates excess glandular tissue, fat and skin, and moves the nipple and areola into their new position. Then he brings the skin from both sides of the breast down and around the areola, thus shaping the new line of the breast. For removing excess fat from the armpit area may be used liposuction.

As a general rule, the nipples remain attached to their blood vessels and nerves. Though, if the breasts are very large or pendulous, the nipples and areolas may have to be completely removed and inserted into a higher position. In this case, detaching the nipple and areola from their blood vessels and nerves provokes them to lastingly lose sensation and can result in the failure to breast-feed.

Sutures are usually positioned around the areola, in a vertical line extending downward and along the lower fold of the breast. In some cases may be used techniques that remove the vertical part of the scar. And rarely, when only fat needs to be detached, liposuction alone can be used to reduce breast size, leaving minimal scars.
