 - Horizontally at the breast crease;
 - Vertically down from the areola to the breast crease.

During the breast reduction surgery breast fat and other extra tissue are being removed through these incisions. The overall breast skin is reduced and the size of the areola becomes smaller in such a way, that it would match its shape, proportion to the new breast and position. Thus, whether someone has his / her breast reduction already scheduled, or someone is simply beginning to think about it, there are some tips, provided below, which can help alleviate back pain, which is usually caused by large breasts.

 - Get soaked in a hot bath, and this will provide the relief of the tension, and also ease muscle pain. Such ingredients, as menthol, which is considered to be a natural anti – inflammatory, may be added to the bath water;
 - Do not get squeezed yourself into a bra of a smaller size, than necessary, as this is not only extremely painful, but it is unhealthy for the breast tissue, shoulders and back;
 - Invest in a support bra in order to distribute the breast weight across the shoulders and back;
 - Stretch as much as it is only possible in order to open up the back muscles. Here is some simple, though very useful exercise: hold a can of soup in each hand, keeping the arms straight by the side. Lift the shoulders straight up toward the ears for a count of two. Pull the shoulders back, pinching the shoulder blades together. Relax and repeat 10 times.
 - Always try to walk, and not to run on a treadmill wearing well – cushioned sneakers, which help to minimize bouncing. It should also be kept in mind, that sand or soft dirt are much better surfaces, rather than asphalt for outdoor walking.

In case, if someone decides and has the breast reduction surgery conducted, what to do about the scars then, and what will be the after – surgery period? As a rule patients get healed rather quickly after the breast reduction, therefore, there are normal, visible scars on the breast are a tradeoff for better proportion between the person’s breasts and the body and for an improved physical and emotional quality of life. As for the scars, in most cases they improve and get faded within several months after the procedure, therefore, the patient is to accept that they will leave forever. The unsightly scars – these are the ones, which are raised, of a red color, wide and misshapen – are a risk of this surgery, though in most cases they are kept under control. It is also necessary to point out, that smoking is known to reduce oxygen level in the body greatly, which can result in poor healing that produces unsightly scars. In addition, such factors, as poor postoperative breast support and wound care, significant weight gain or loss and even heredity can become the reason of the less – than – desirable scars.
