Whether it is for breast augmentation or breast reduction, men are generally not thought of as candidates for this type of surgery. Nevertheless, male breast reduction is becoming more and more common. This is a great solution for any man who feels uncomfortable with his chest. The ailment causing the need for this surgery is called gynecomastia.

What can a man expect during and after breast reduction surgery?
Breast to breast reduction surgery, the patient’s doctor will sit down with them and discuss the reasons for the surgery. During this consultation, the patient’s doctor will discuss what will happen before, during and after surgical procedure. The doctor will also talk to the patient regarding what that person can reasonably expect from the surgery.

During the surgery, the patient is put under general anesthetic. The patient may either go home the same day, or stay one night in the hospital. Most breast reduction surgeries will take from two to five hours. If the patient is not staying one night in the hospital, he or she will need someone to drive that person home.

Although it may vary from person to person, individuals will need to take a minimum of one to two weeks off of work for recovery. Normal activities cannot be renewing for at least a month following surgery, and it may be longer than that before the patient can do any heavy lifting. The doctor will prescribe painkillers to help ease the breast pain that will follow the surgery.
