Smooth Breast Implants / Textured Breast Implants

Smooth Breast Implants / Textured Breast Implants
Smooth implants comparatively to textured move in the pocket freely. Textured implants have a thicker shell, and have a somewhat higher crack rate because of the imperfections in the shell. Whereas smooth implants have thinner shells and tend to last longer.

Textured implants were designed for helping to prevent capsular contracture. There are contradictory studies concerning the topic whether or not the textured surface really prevents contracture. Some have revealed that when the implants are placed under the muscle, there is no difference in capsular contracture rates, while others show lower rate of capsular contracture. Anyway, this subject is still being discussed.

Textured implants are commonly firmer than smooth implants due to the thicker shell. Nevertheless traction rippling is possible with textured implants as well. That is explained by the fact that the overlying tissue seized the implant surface and begins to "pull" on it. Traction rippling does not crop up with smooth-walled implants. When it happened that traction rippling however occurs, the only alternative is to have a rebuild surgery and have the implants replaced. Moreover, rippling is also possible with smooth implants.

No implant is better or superior to another. Some surgeons (and women) prefer smooth to textured, anatomical to round, and on the contrary. Consulting with a few plastic surgeons will give you a better of idea of the option that is right for you.

Temporary / Disposable Breast Implant - Mentor Sizer

Sizers are not reusable implants that some surgeons exploit during surgery in order to get the most accurate size for the patients breast line. The sizer is placed in the patient and filled with saline until the right "look" is achieved.  The surgeon then removes the sizer, and replaces it with the permanent breast implant that is the same amount as the size that was achieved using the sizer. Sizers are also referred to as disposable breast implants, disposable sizers, temporary breast implants, and temporary sizers.
