| Breast Implant Surgery Complications | As a rule breast augmentation surgeries go well and provide excellent results. Therefore, this is considered to be quire a serious operation, and it is possible that even after the procedure something may go wrong. Although, it is much unlikely that any of the complications will occur to anyone, still, it is necessary to be simply aware that they can occur and it is important to know what to look for and what to do in case if something unpleasant does happen.
When the person is sent home, he or she is provided with all necessary phone numbers to call in case if there is any problem arises. To these numbers also belong the numbers to contact the surgeon and the number of an on – call physician. In addition, every patient receives the complete list of things to look out for, for example an elevated temperature, bleeding from the incision, etc. There are some instructions, provided below, though, it is extremely necessary to point out, that they are general, and if someone gets different ones, this person is to follow them and not the instructions, printed below. Thus, it is important to contact the surgeon or the on – call physician immediately in case if the patient notices any of the following conditions: • Blisters, which are not caused by adhesive from bandages; • Bottoming out of the breast implant; • Breast implant extrusion; • Cloudy or pus discharge, coming from the nipples, incision areas, or from anywhere else; • Deflation; • Difficulty or inability to pass waste (either liquid or solid, or both); • Displacement of the breast implant; • Excessive bleeding, coming from the suture lines; • Feeling of numbness in the legs; • High temperature, over 101 degrees F; • Pain, which is not able to relieve; • Uncontrollable dizziness.
It is important to contact the surgeon or the on – call physician and go to the emergency room right away in case if the patient notices any of the following conditions: • Abrupt and severe swelling and discoloration of the area around the breast implant; • Blackish color of skin, which has nothing to do with a bruise; • Blood coming with the urine or feces, or if the person spits up blood; • Convulsions and / or seizures; • High temperature, over 105 degrees F; • Loss of consciousness or fainting; • Uncontrollable vomiting.
Anyway, even if someone considers that there is some complication, it is not a reason to get despaired at all. Here is the list of thing, to do in case of a complication: #1 – it is necessary calm; #2 – every person, who has had a breast augmentation surgery, is to have all emergency numbers handy and call (or, it is also possible to have the caregiver or someone, close to the patient call) the surgeon or the on – call physician to tell either of them the problem as soon as it becomes possible; #3 – in case if the patient is going to the emergency room, it is necessary to inform the surgeon, which hospital the person is going to; #4 – it is important to have all medications with, when going to the hospital; #5 – it is also a good idea to keep an overnight bag packed and ready to go “just in case”; #6 – in case if it is possible, it would also be useful to keep a written journal with photos of all the symptoms and complaints.
