| Guide to Breast Implant Incisions | During the breast augmentation procedure, a breast implant may be inserted through carefully placed incisions either behind the breast tissue or above the breast muscle. And because breast augmentation is the surgery, which is in the majority of cases performed for cosmetic reasons, the woman, who is a potential patient, should ask her surgeon about the incision location, which would be the most inconspicuous for her. During this consultation, it is necessary to remember that every individual situation is unique, and this is why it is necessary to consider al the advantages and disadvantages of each incision option.
As it has already been mentioned, the location of the incisions is mostly based on the woman’s individual anatomical features, as well as on the desired outcome of the procedure and on the breast implants’ size and shape.
There are four types of incisions, which are possible to be applied during the breast augmentation procedure.
These are the following:
- Inframammary type of Incision (it is also called Crease or Fold Incision);
- Periareolar type of Incision (it is also called Nipple Incision);
- Transaxillary type of Incision (it is also called Armpit Incision;
- TUBA type of Incision (it is also called Belly Button Incision, Navel or Transumbilical Incision).
