Periareolar Incision
Periareolar Incision

In case of the periareolar type of incision, which is also considered to be the nipple incision, it is located along the areola’s outline, or the brown or pink pigmented region, which surround the nipple. It allows providing the precise pocket modification, as necessary to create the desired shape of the breast and complete hemostasis (controlled bleeding). It is one of the types of incisions, applied in the placement of the breast implants for the breast augmentation procedure.

There are several advantages of the periareolar type of incision, one of which is that it is possible to have no visible scar. It can be so, because of the texture and color characteristic for the areola border. However, it is necessary to keep in mind, that sometimes scar can not be hidden, though everything depends on the woman’s individual anatomical peculiarities.

Another advantage of this type of incision is that it allows the implant being located in a precise pocket formation and it also provides for absolute controlled bleeding.

In order to be able to perform the periareolar type of incision, the plastic surgeon is to make an incision right at the edge or the nipple. The goal of this incision would be to place it in the transition area, located between the dark areola and the breast skin, which surrounds it, in place where it is possible to be invisible.
The next step after the incision performing is that the surgeon creates a pocket for the breast implant and slides the implant through the incision right into this breast pocket. As soon as the breast implant gets inserted, it is to be centered behind the nipple.
