Inframammary Incision

In case of the inframammary type of incision, which is also considered to be the crease or fold incision, it is located just in the proximity of the crease, where the breast and chest meet. This crease is called the inframammary fold.

Inframammary type of incision has several advantages, the main of which is that this incision lets the breast implant to be located in any of the three possible implant locations. It can be applied if the breast implant location is subglandular, partial submuscular, as well as if it is complete submuscular.

To another advantage of the inframammary incision application the one that the surgeon is able to work close to the breast and this gives him the best visibility while performing the breast augmentation surgery.

As for the inframammary fold, it is produced in the result of the gravity’s pull on the lower part of the breast, which is not connected to the chest wall by any kind of fibrous tissue. This crease is developed right at the point where the breast and the skin meet, and it normally occurs somewhere in the location of the fifth or sixth rib, where the skin is comparatively more tightly connected to the body structure, underlying it.

In order to be able to perform the inframammary incision, the surgeon is to find the optimal location for its placement. And it is just under the breast and as close to the inframammary fold, as possible. When it is found, the surgeon is to make the incision and produce a pocket, where the breast implant will be located. And, finally, the implant is being slid upward through the incision, after which it is centered behind the nipple.

The incision is located in such a way, that it would provide the proper breast implant placement and reduce the visibility of the scar. It should also be noted, that in case if the inframamary incisions occur to be located properly, scarring from them will be easy to hide under a swimsuit top.
