Breast Reconstruction Implant Only

During this type of breast reconstruction procedure an incision is made along the previous scar and dissection is conducted through the tissues and up to the chest wall. After that a tissue expander – is a kind of a balloon, which is deflated at the time of placing, is placed directly in the mastectomy site. This tissue expander is equipped with a magnetic port, which can e accessed through the skin for future filling. After it has been located, the tissue expander is filled with saline solution in a slow way. As a rule this procedure is performed on a once a week to one in two weeks basis. The filling process involves placing a needle through the breast and right into the magnetic port. Each treatment the tissue expander is filled with 50cc of saline and up until the site matches the other breast. As for the length of the entire filling process, it can take up to several months.

After the tissue expander reaches the proper size, i.e. when it becomes of the size of another breast, there is the second operation performed, during which a permanent breast implant is placed. And, finally the patient is placed into a special bra or wrapped with a compression wrap, and this is also considered to be one of the major parts of the entire breast reconstruction process, because the garment is used to provide support and comfort, as well as to minimize swelling and help maintain the implants’ position.
