Generally the patient is up and is able to walk around the next day after the breast surgery. In case if there is no need to stay in the hospital overnight, it is necessary to have some responsible adult to take care of the patient and to monitor her condition for a couple of days after the woman arrives home. 

Risks: any type of breast surgery (just like any other type of surgery) bears the risk of anesthesia – related problems. To more specific ones unexpected milk production and capsular contracture are mostly referred.
Side Effects: among possible after – breast – surgery side effects feeling of itching discomfort, bruising and swelling, regional tightness, redness are referred. In addition, some patients may experience somewhat heightened, as well as decreased breast sensation.

Special Considerations: it is necessary to follow all instructions for the proper breast support, provided by the surgeon. Besides, the patient is to sleep on the back in a reclining position and wear the support bra during the first several days after the surgery took place. The woman should try to begin walking and doing all kinds of light physical activity as soon as she feels being able to, though it is necessary to avoid anything, connected with pushing, twisting, pulling, lifting until the doctor gives the go – ahead.

Back to Work: As a rule people return to their work within a couple of weeks after the breast surgery. Therefore, everything depends on the extent and type of the procedure, conducted. As for the scars, they begin to fade within the first three months; it is also possible to use some topical steroid cream or silicone gel to promote healing and to reduce the chance of the raised, red or irregular scars development.

Cause for Concern: In case if someone notices any kind of hematoma or blood pooling beneath the skin, it is necessary to inform the doctor immediately. In order to minimize the risk of it, the person should not take any anti – inflammatory medications, blood thinners, such as aspirin, ibuprofen or some specific kinds of herbs and vitamins before the breast surgery.
